Nisse and Matt were married this past Saturday in a truly gorgeous wedding—fanciful, artistic, romantic—it was a beautiful celebration that I can’t wait to share. But a few months ago we did something equally fanciful, artistic, and romantic – a Paris destination engagement session! I know myself, like many photographer, had dreamt of shooting in Paris, and for the couple, it’s hard to imagine a more perfect place for portraits of your love than France.
I was in London to photograph a wedding at the end of April, and knew Nisse would be in London for the month for a medical rotation. Upon seeing her at a store opening in Chicago, I suggested we do the shoot there. I saw her browsing in the store, and seeing what she was drawn to I just thought a shoot in Europe seemed so perfect for her and Matt, with their love of art, culture, travel and design. After I got home, I emailed her, randomly saying, “You know, we could just do the shoot in Paris!” Immediately after I sent it I wrote her back apologizing, saying that was obviously a crazy idea. But just as I sent that, I received another email from Nisse saying that was actually what they had wanted to do, but they thought it was too crazy. 🙂 It was a funny little exchange, and I am so glad that our crazy dreams aligned to be able to do this amazing shoot.
We spent the entire afternoon together, wandering throughout Paris, stopping here and there to take photos, ducking into a cafe during a hailstorm for crepes and cafe creme, and ending with celebratory champagne. We visited the Marais for neighborhood pictures, the Ile de Cite and of course, the Pont des Arts, and then went to the Eiffel Tower, Louvre and Tuileries, where Nisse donned a gorgeous marigold gown. I was so happy to be able to do this shoot, and especially with this couple, as it felt more like friends exploring rather than merely a shoot. Thank you so much, Nisse + Matt, for giving me this incredible opportunity and for being so wonderful to work with.
