I was in New York for the past week, shooting two engagement connection sessions, in meetings and seconding (something I hadn’t done in a few years, but was a great experience) at a stunning wedding in Manhattan. I also spent a lot of time catching up with friends who live in town or were visiting, and had a wonderful time walking around, eating delicious food and taking some rare pleasure photos.
It was my first trip to New York, and I really loved it. It can’t really be compared to any other city in the country; I was really shocked by how much larger and more intense it felt than Chicago, a big city by any means. I found myself falling more in love with Chicago on the trip, but now that I’m home, I’m itching to go back a bit. I think I’ll be spending some more time there later this year and hopefully quite a bit more in 2009.
Many more posts from the sessions and wedding coming later, but for now, enjoy some of the photos I took in my down time. It has been a while since I shot photographs for pleasure that I really enjoyed (more an issue of rarely devoting time to shooting for pleasure rather than not liking what I shoot), so I am quite thrilled with many of these.

Sun finally came out on Friday

I’ve been to several countries in Latin America and Europe, have been to many states across the U.S., but somehow in my twenty some-odd years, never made it to New York City. Having wanted to go for so long, I’m so excited to say I will be paying a visit to NYC and Brooklyn in just a few weeks. I have a few great clients there, so we’ll be shooting engagement sessions in a new, inspiring location for me, and I’ll also be helping a friend shoot a wedding. I will also have time to shoot a few more sessions, either engagement/couple sessions (great even if you are just dating or already married), after sessions (get your dress on again and let’s go take great photos in the locations you wish you could have gone to), portraits or boudoir. Availability is very limited, and special savings will be in effect for sessions out there! If you or a friend is interested in this very special opportunity. contact me ASAP! I will be in New York from March 17-22. Dates can potentially be extended a few days for a small fee, and sessions can be done in close cities like Philadelphia or Boston for additional fees.
The Chicago boudoir weekend was so fabulous. I think it was such a wonderfully positive experience for both me and the beautiful women that participated. I feel so lucky to be able to work with wonderful ladies and also to intrepret and share their beauty. I will share photos from one of the women later next week, and certainly hope I’ll be able to share some from the rest of the women, but that will most likely happen at a later date.
While I was at the hotel, though, I took a few pictures from the beautiful room. It snowed again on Saturday, making me nervous about the light, but it ended up being quite bright still and the snow added this wonderful romantic downtown feel to the day.

At Jamie and Sam’s wedding, I shot about five photographs with a roll of medium format film on a Mamiya. I used to shoot a great deal of film, but fell into the digital trap for time, convenience and security reasons. That said, a lot of clients have recently been asking me about using film at their weddings, so I believe I’m going to be offering it as a special add-on. If you are a new or current client and are interested in having me shoot some photographs with film, please inquire for more details.
Here’s a lovely portrait of Sam. Very similar to digital one below, but I think film carries a lovely, real-life texture and works with colour in ways that digital can’t always.

And, a completely unrelated photo, but here is one I shot on the blue line using a long exposure. Some might call this a mistake, but I love these sorts of photographs, especially when they showcase parts of the city.

Last, but not least, I’m on my way out the door to head up to Michigan for a few days. I got a new toy yesterday, so perhaps you’ll see something unexpected after I get back! At any rate, e-mails may be delayed a bit over the weekend. I hope everyone has a lovely Fourth of July weekend spent with friends or family, and be sure to check back soon. I have one more post related to Jamie + Sam’s wedding followed by weeks of all weddings all the time.
