I was recently using a computer when I noticed that the photos on my blog were looking really disappointing. Washed-out, blah, and lacking the life that I saw when I was editing them in Photoshop. I took a peek on another computer, and saw that they were looking as lovely as they did in my desktop programs. After a little consultation and research, I learned that my preferences in Firefox were not managing colour correctly. Is your browser set up to display the true images? Several of my friends’ weren’t, and after completing a few simple steps, we were relieved and excited to see images on my blog (and across the internet) as they were meant to be viewed.
To ensure your computer is displaying the right colours, just follow these simple instructions. Note that these work only in Firefox, and only in versions 3+. (Sidebar: If you aren’t using Firefox, please download it. It is free and wonderful.)
I took a bit of a break from blogging recently, as I spent three long days learning and shooting at the Bebbinar. I had a fabulous time meeting new local and international photographers, improving my business (big changes coming!) and learning more about shooting techniques. On Wednesday, we split up into two small groups and spent an hour shooting fantastic models in the blocks surrounding the Hotel Sax. (Brides—if you are looking for a stunning hotel in Chicago to get ready in, overnight in, or have a boudoir shoot at, call them up! Staggeringly gorgeous.) We were only allowed to shoot JPG files, not the “extra safe” RAW files, and we had to turn in photographs completely untouched and unedited. When we reviewed the photos the next day, it was amazing to see how much talent we had between us, completely unedited! Here are a few I shot with the stunningly beautiful Aga (also a makeup artist in Chicago). Most of these were touched a little bit, but overall, not very edited at all. Enjoy, and check back the next couple days for arguably my favourite wedding I’ve ever shot with one of my favourite couples!

I found out late last week that I was accepted into the Artistic Guild of the Wedding Photojournalist Association. While I was pleased to be chosen for the general WPJA, I’m rather ecstatic about being selected for the artistic guild. Some of my favourite photographers are frequent winners of their contests, so it’s wonderful to be considered in good company. Plus, there are only four other photographers from Illinois on their list, so I was I especially thrilled. I entered a few images in a recent WPJA contest and will be entering a few into this quarter’s [AG]WPJA contest, so I will be sure to update with news of how that goes.

I am obviously terrible at updating the blog; I apologize! For some reason, I had the idea that January would be a calm month, full of opportunities to catch up on things. In reality, however, it turned out to be a packed month, but fortunately one full of wonderful, positive things. I have been privileged to meet with so many wonderful clients in the past few weeks, and I absolutely cannot wait for all of the exciting weddings coming up this year. I am so blessed to have found the most lovely, kind couples with a variety of styles that will be very exciting for me to capture. I have several Hindu weddings scheduled, for which I am so very thrilled to be able to capture all the gorgeous colours; at least two weddings featuring colourful dresses (girls after my own heart); and celebrations with fun & games (karaoke, Scrabble) playing a role in at least a few. I love learning how each couple chooses to celebrate their day in their own way, making it even easier for me to capture the unique personality of their days and their love.

Anywho, I wanted to make a quick blog post to let everyone know that I was recently accepted into the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA)! I could not be more thrilled or pleased, and was definitely not expecting to be accepted so early! Here’s hoping everyone has a simply splendid week—and thanks to those of you that check back here. I promise to try and do better at posting more regularly!
