Last June, I got an email from a sweet sounding woman in the D.C. area named Young-Mee. I was still feeling a little new to the wedding game, but Young-Mee, a talented photographer in her own right, asked me if I might be available to come out to D.C. the following summer to photograph her wedding, essentially being willing to choose a date based on my availability. It was extremely humbling and flattering, but little did I realize exactly how flattering her decision was. When I went out to D.C., I discovered that Young-Mee’s circle of friends and family is full of talented photographers, with her own father running a photography studio, her sister being a successful videographer in the D.C. area, a gifted friend who photographed their engagement photos, and friends who owned more DSLRs and L lenses than I’ve seen at any wedding. Needless to say, I was so thrilled to be chosen for this day, and I really hope these photographs live up to everyone’s expectations!
Their wedding day on Saturday was the first time Young-Mee and Yuri had met me, but thanks to all of our phone calls, I felt like we were able to get along so well straight away. Young-Mee is so incredibly kind, sweet and also has great taste, and Yuri is so thoughtful, and while a bit quiet initially, incredibly fun and humorous overall (think he takes after dad below!). Many thanks to Kelsey Thompson of K. Thompson photography for coming out and shooting with me. She did a great job throughout the day, and took the guy’s prep photos below.

Love this shot Kelsey got!

Love their looks here. :)

So we decided to just take photos around the hotel before going to the ceremony. Before I flew out, I asked Young-Mee if there were any spots that might be good for photos, and she wasn’t entirely sure where we would take them. “No worries!” I said. “There are great spots everywhere!” But when I drove up I’m pretty sure I cursed in my car, since the hotel was basically in a little industrial officey complex—just four buildings, and two little groves of trees (but buildings and signs surrounding them, making it hard to set up the photo). I was a little nervous, but think we worked it out—figures that an office would be easier for me than somewhere classically “beautiful.”

This little boy was pouting ALL DAY. Love the mockery.

Young-Mee and her sister made these. So impressed with what my brides are doing this year!
