I met Sarah well over 18 months ago, and over the past year and a half we developed such a nice relationship that by the time the wedding rolled around, she and John truly felt like friends. Through just getting to know her and especially after their engagement session, I knew that their wedding would just be a stunner, and she and John certainly didn’t disappoint! They had, simultaneously, one of the chicest and one of the most relaxed weddings I did all year—a bit of a non-wedding wedding, with a thoughtful and intimate evening wedding on third floor of the MCA, followed by a simple, but elegant cocktail reception. No toasts, no introductions, no cake cutting—just a sweet first dance to “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from Toy Story (cue a reception room full of “aww"s). For portraits, Sarah and John requested absolutely no Chicago landmarks and instead wanted all modern, urban spots. I picked some spots before their wedding and was so thrilled with how they suited them, their wedding day style and their colors. They are such a beautiful couple and have such great style but also such a sweet, comfortable energy between them that made for such a great shooting experience. Such a privilege to work with these two!

More to come.
Crista and Bill were married on Labor Day weekend at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) here in Chicago. I was so excited about this wedding, as it was one of the last before the wonderful Olaffur Eliasson exhibit was taken down. This was my favourite exhibit I’ve seen in a long while, and I couldn’t wait to shoot in such a colourful and inspiring environment. Bill and Crista are both creatives, and Crista did a beautiful job pulling together a gorgeous event that felt relaxed and artistic. It was also an incredibly emotional day, with Crista and her sister crying throughout the day—it was really lovely and sweet, and I was so happy to be able to share in the day along with my second photographer, Frank. Also, a big thanks to the amazing team at Kehoe Designs for designing the stunning florals that perfectly played off the rainbow of colours in the exhibit, while not being overkill. Really wonderful job; highly recommend them for very creative and unique displays and bouquets (we were all swooning over the succulents)!
