Following a year-end break, I have lots of excitin Following a year-end break, I have lots of exciting news, but first wanted to share a personal update. On Monday, my sweet Morley completed his Earthly journey after being my faithful companion for nearly 11 years.
.
I shared a longer tribute elsewhere but, in short, a better dog has never existed. I came to adopt Morley through chance after volunteering at the PAWS shelter, becoming interested in fostering, and then being randomly assigned a little puppy (which was definitely *not* what I was looking for at the time). When I walked into the medical center to bring him home, I found myself greeted by a shy, scared pup who happened to be the most adorable dog I had ever seen, my sweet baby Morley. <3
.
We quickly became inseparable and the last 11 years have been made infinitely better thanks to his presence in my life. In looking back at pictures and videos of him, the thing that struck me is that he truly was a best friend. We went on walks, talked, cried, played together, laughed, went out to eat, traveled -- all the things you’d do with a best friend, we did with sweet Mo for over 11 years.
.
.
He was stubborn, snobbish, funny, truly unique, deeply empathetic and in touch with human emotions, an incredible listener, had the best ears in the game, and cuddled better than any dog I have ever met, sleeping curled up in our arms like a living teddy bear.
.
.
A while ago, I googled something like “dogs you are unnaturally close to.” The relationship I had with Morley was unlike anything I had ever experienced before, and it was also very different than with our other two dogs, whom I also love very much but have very different relationships with. I came across the term “heart dog” -- a dog that you have a once in a lifetime relationship with and who can be compared to a human soulmate. Morley was decidedly my heart dog, through and through.
.
While our pain is infinite, we are taking a lot of comfort in the idea of, as Mike says, “passing the leash” onto my best friend who passed four years ago who was maybe the only person on earth Morley loved more than us.
.
We love you forever sweet Mo💔
Emily and Deya on what was yet another day of rain Emily and Deya on what was yet another day of rain off and on all day. One of the bright sides was that the almost always packed @chicagobotanic was nearly deserted as we took photos, and the sun peeked out at the most romantic and opportune of times.

Like everyone in wedding world, especially here in Like everyone in wedding world, especially here in Chicago, I am in the thick of it. October is always highest season and this year is especially so, with the usual October work plus 2020 postponements plus 2021 spring postponements. It’s a lot, but we are in the home stretch, and I am so incredibly grateful to my almost universally INCREDIBLE clients I have been so fortunate to have this year. Wow. I truly am so lucky to have THE NICEST COUPLES on earth. I truly could not have made it through this year had I not had the amazing clients I did this year.
.
.
I am also thinking of all the incredible vendors who have been working tirelessly this season. You see final images from events but so, so much hard work happens behind the scenes — in all years but especially this year with huge shortages on just about everything from flowers to staff, with teams putting in double or triple time to make these events come together. I’ve been having clients add me for more time than usual this year as well, often shooting multiple days or staying til the end of a celebration, seeing strike (tear down of an event) starting to take place and thinking about all the hands that go into a day. For large weddings, it’s not unusual to have a team of over 100 people coming together to put on a wedding between catering and music and beauty and decor teams. It truly is a group effort and in Chicago we have some of the most hard working teams in the business.
.
.
I haven’t been posting many details this year as it’s really been all about the people, but the transformation this past weekend was truly one for the books and really highlighted the team effort I’ve been thinking of, with two years of planning, date changes, two days of set up, and strike til 6 am. A truly gorgeous day with the incredible @karasuperfine at the helm and @rishithedesigner @hmrdesigns on decor with @nuagedesignsinc @hallsrental @bbjlinen @clementineink @cake_chicago @frostchicago @blueplatechicago completely transforming @theateronthelake Can’t wait to share more from this and so many other days soon.

We originally planned to do just a few photos with We originally planned to do just a few photos with the couple’s pug, Larry (great dog name or best dog name?) at the bride’s family home, but when I showed up, I said, “Why go anywhere else?” Photographing a couple at home is always a favorite for me, and clearly this one was something special, with the chance toI loved capture them in a field of native wildflowers her dad had planted. We had a great evening shooting and talking Bachelor in Paradise, the merits of cheap champagne, and of course, LARRY! Cant wait for their winter wedding in just a few months with @sqnevents
